TEMPORARY QA ASSISTANT (3 Month Contract)

Based in Linton, Maidstone, Kent, UK

BerryGardens Limited seeks to appoint a temporary QA Assistant to be involved in the day to day QA function within the pack house.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge of the soft fruit industry would be an asset but not essential.

Applicants should be numerate and have a good command of English and be very well organised, a team player and have a calm professional manner. It is a condition of the post that the successful candidate is prepared to work flexible hours, working on a planned rota basis.

CROP PRODUCTION ADVISOR

Based in the South East

KG Growers Ltd, the UK’s leading soft and stone fruit co-operative, seeks to appoint a Crop Production Advisor to support their growers in Kent due to the current incumbent moving to a partner business.

Forming part of a small team, the Crop Production Advisor will be expected to visit growers according to an agreed schedule providing a complete and holistic approach to crop agronomy on members’ farms. Participation will encompass everything from assisting with production planning, crop husbandry in all its facets and crop estimating to monitoring the initial expectations against actual weekly output. In addition, the advisor will support the KG Growers benchmarking initiative.

Applicants should have been educated to degree (or equivalent) level with at least three year’s experience in a similar role, be BASIS and FACTS qualified and preferably have a good understanding of soft and stone fruit crops from either being in a similar role or from having grown these crops in a production business. Certification to the required qualifications will be provided for those candidates who are otherwise excellent but who currently do not qualify in this respect. The successful applicant will also have a sound practical approach from an in-depth knowledge of general horticultural growing practices.

Candidates with a calm professional manner and good communication and inter-personal skills are sought. The post will be home based and the person appointed should be prepared to work flexible hours under their own initiative.

This is a permanent salaried position with associated benefits, including a company car and six weeks holiday per annum.

TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR TRAINEE SOFT FRUIT MANAGERS

KG Growers has partnered with MDS Ltd to create a bespoke management training programme for staff who are either current employees of members of KG Growers Ltd, or who are individuals that aspire to work in the soft fruit industry and will be keen to join a member business on successful completion of the training programme.

The two-year Training Programme combines practical experience with ‘off-the-job’ learning attending specialised courses throughout the period. Successful candidates will be salaried employees of KG Growers Ltd and given four secondments of six months duration each, at four different KG member businesses.

For graduate candidates successful completion of the training programme will lead to a Postgraduate Certificate in Food and Fresh Produce Management accredited by Harper Adams University College.

The KG / MDS training programme is open to candidates across all disciplines and especially those with qualifications or experience in land based, food related, business management, as well as life sciences and language subjects. Those candidates who are a graduate with a 2.1 honours degree in any discipline will be able to participate in the full postgraduate certificate training programme. For those candidates without qualifications, but with a more practical background who have demonstrated success in the industry and possess a industry relevant higher education qualification at National Diploma, HND, foundation degree or equivalent, the full training programme will still be offered but trainees will achieve a certificate for successful completion of the course but without the postgraduate certificate.

More important for candidates are personal qualities combined with a realistic appreciation of what is involved in the fresh food and produce industry: long hours at times, a need to handle the demands of many different stakeholders and the high expectations of product quality and service.

Additionally, for candidates who do not have English as their first language, successful completion of an on-line assessment of their level of knowledge of English will be required.
